What to do, what to bring, and what to expect at the DOR office — start to finish.
A Missouri motorcycle instruction permit lets you practice while you prepare for a motorcycle endorsement or license. You take the written knowledge test at a Missouri State Highway Patrol examination station, then complete the permit at a local license office. The written test is based on the Missouri Motorcycle Operator Manual (Form 2332).
The steps below follow the official Missouri Department of Revenue process. Always confirm current fees and accepted documents on dor.mo.gov before you go.
You must be at least 15 1/2 years old. Applicants under 16 must also show proof of a completed Motorcycle Rider Training Course (MRTC), and riders 15 1/2 to 18 must meet Missouri Graduated Driver License requirements.
Study the Missouri Motorcycle Operator Manual (Form 2332). The knowledge-test questions come from it — focus on lane position, the SEE strategy, braking, curves and crash avoidance.
Take the motorcycle written examination at a Missouri State Highway Patrol testing location. If you do not already hold a Missouri driver license, you must also pass the operator's (car) written test.
Bring your completed DOR-100 or E-100 examination form, proof of identity and residence, and pay the $3.50 fee at a local license office. You may hold only one valid permit at a time, so a motorcycle endorsement must be added to any operator permit you already hold.
The permit is valid six months and may be renewed once. Completing an approved MRTC waives both the Highway Patrol written test and the on-cycle skills test (its card is good for one year).
To earn the endorsement, pass the vision examination, road-sign recognition test and the Highway Patrol on-cycle skills test (four exercises) — or have the written and skills tests waived by an approved MRTC.
Check the official DOR page for current fees and accepted forms of payment.

Missouri/MSHP publish no official knowledge-test count or passing score; 25 questions / 80% (20 correct) is the multi-site practice consensus.
