What a motorcycle endorsement is, who needs one, and how to add it to your Nevada driver license.
In Nevada the motorcycle privilege is a Class M license. If you do not already drive, you can earn a stand-alone Class M license; if you already hold a Nevada license, you add the motorcycle (Class M) endorsement to it (Nevada MOM p.i).
You do not need a Class M license to operate a trimobile — it may be driven with any class of license, with no endorsement or restriction.
| Endorsement | Motorcycle-Only License | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Drivers who already hold a Nevada license | Riders without a regular driver license |
| Added to | Your existing license | Issued as its own license |
| Knowledge test | Motorcycle knowledge test | Motorcycle knowledge test |
| Lets you drive a car | Yes — keeps your car privileges | No — motorcycle only |
Completing an approved Basic Rider Course waives any further testing at the DMV — both the knowledge and the skills tests (Nevada MOM p.i).
Find a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course at NevadaRider.com or by calling the Nevada Rider Motorcycle Safety Program at (800) 889-8779. A motorcycle endorsement may be added to a Nevada license with a course-completion certificate that has not been expired for more than one year.
The Class M license or motorcycle endorsement is issued by the Nevada DMV; the endorsement is part of your driver's license and renews together with it — there is no separate renewal cycle.
Fees are set by the Nevada DMV. Confirm the current license or endorsement fee on dmv.nv.gov before you apply.
