🚫 Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Studying a generic manual. Study the Oklahoma Motorcycle Operator Manual — the MSF Motorcycle Operator Manual the DPS reprints — so the wording and emphasis match your test.
• Guessing Oklahoma's helmet rule. Helmets are required only under 18; eye protection is required unless your motorcycle has a windshield. Know both — they are common test points.
• Memorizing answers instead of rules. Questions are reworded; understand why an answer is right, especially for SEE, lane positions, and braking.
• Skipping crash-avoidance and surface chapters. Quick stops, swerving, slippery surfaces, and mechanical problems are all tested and easy to overlook.
• Cramming the night before. Spaced practice over several days beats one long session.

📅 Study Schedule

One-Week Plan

Days 1-2: read the Oklahoma Motorcycle Operator Manual and this study guide. Days 3-5: take a practice test each day and review every missed question, focusing on SEE, lane positions, and braking. Days 6-7: take full practice tests until you pass comfortably, and lock in Oklahoma's helmet, eye-protection, headlight, and lane-splitting rules.

One-Day Plan

Skim the cheat sheet, take two or three practice tests, and spend the rest of your time on your weakest topics. Remember the targets: front brake = 70% of stopping power, follow at 2 seconds (3+ when wet or at night), and aim for about 80% correct.

✅ Test-Day Checklist

• Bring proof of identity and residency, your driver license if adding the endorsement, and payment.
• Add parent/guardian consent if you are a minor.
• Arrive early and well-rested — fatigue costs easy points.
• Read every question and all four options carefully before answering.
• Eliminate the obviously wrong options, then choose between what is left, and answer every question.

📍 Oklahoma Gotchas

Helmet is age-based. Required under 18, optional at 18+ — but eye protection is required for the operator unless the motorcycle has a windshield.

Headlight always on. Oklahoma law requires your motorcycle headlight to be on at all times, day and night.

No lane splitting. Passing between lanes of same-direction traffic is illegal in Oklahoma.

A rider course shortcuts the skills test. The OHP Safe Riders Basic RiderCourse waives the on-cycle skills test, but you still pass the written knowledge test.
