Testing & Licensing Process
In Kentucky, testing and licensing are handled by two agencies. The Kentucky State Police (KSP) administers all vision, written, and road skills tests β by appointment only. After passing, you visit a KYTC Regional Office to receive your permit or license credential.
What to Bring
For a first-time permit application:
- Original birth certificate or certified copy (proof of identity)
- Social Security card (bring the card as proof)
- 1 proof of Kentucky residency (2 for REAL ID), dated less than one year
- School Compliance Verification Form if under 18 (No Pass/No Drive law)
- Parent/guardian present to sign if under 18
