How many questions are on the Missouri DOR knowledge test?
The test has 25 multiple-choice questions with one overall score โ no separate sections. Missouri also administers a separate road signs test at the same MSHP exam station visit.
What is the passing score?
You need 80% overall โ that's 20 out of 25 correct. One combined score. No separate section thresholds.
What happens if I fail?
You must wait until the next business day to retake the written knowledge test. Missouri does not charge an additional fee to retake it. If you fail the driving skills test, you may take one driving test per day.
Is the test timed?
No, the real Missouri DOR test has no time limit. Take your time and read carefully. Our practice exam uses a 25-minute timer to simulate slight pressure, but the real test lets you go at your own pace.
How old do I need to be for a learner's permit?
Age 15 โ no driver's education required in Missouri. You must hold the permit for at least 182 days (6 months) before applying for an intermediate license.

- Proof of identity โ birth certificate, passport, or other government-issued ID
- Social Security card or document showing your SSN
- Two proofs of Missouri residency โ utility bill, bank statement, lease, etc.

Does Missouri use "DUI" or "DWI"?
Missouri uses DWI โ Driving While Intoxicated. The test will use DWI terminology, not DUI. Key numbers: 0.08% BAC limit (21+), 0.02% BAC (under 21), 0.15%+ triggers enhanced penalties. Refusing a chemical test = automatic 1-year license revocation.
Is cannabis legal in Missouri?
Yes โ but driving impaired is still illegal. Missouri legalized medical marijuana in 2018 and recreational marijuana in November 2022 (Amendment 3). However, driving under the influence of marijuana is an DWI offense. There is no legal THC limit like the 0.08% BAC for alcohol โ prosecutors must prove impairment. Medical marijuana cardholders cannot be charged simply for having THC in their system, but can still be charged if actually impaired.
