Florida has two paths. Every new Florida motorcyclist must complete a Basic RiderCourse (BRC), which replaces any written test — so a motorcycle endorsement needs no separate exam. The 50-question Class E knowledge test applies only on the Motorcycle Only License path. This page is free motorcycle-knowledge practice for the BRC; if you also need the Class E test, use our
Florida Class E (car) practice test.
Florida Motorcycle Test Tips
How to walk into the FLHSMV office prepared and pass the motorcycle knowledge test on your first attempt.
🚫 Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Thinking there is a motorcycle written test to cram for. Florida has no separate motorcycle knowledge test — the Basic RiderCourse covers the knowledge and skills evaluation, so prepare for the course.
- Confusing the Class E test with a motorcycle test. The 50-question test is the regular driver license test, needed only on the Motorcycle Only path.
- Letting the BRC completion card expire. You have only one year from finishing the course to add the endorsement, or you must take it again.
- Memorizing answers instead of understanding rules. Questions are reworded; understand why an answer is right — especially for SEE, lane position and braking.
- Cramming the night before. Spaced practice over several days beats one long session.
📅 Study Schedule
One-Week Plan
Days 1-2: read this study guide and the MSF Motorcycle Operator Manual. Days 3-5: take a practice test each day and review every missed question, focusing on hazard awareness, lane positioning and braking. Days 6-7: take full practice tests until you pass comfortably — this prepares you for the Basic RiderCourse knowledge evaluation.
One-Day Plan
Skim the cheat sheet, take two or three practice tests, and spend the rest of your time on your weakest topics. Remember Florida's route: complete the Basic RiderCourse, then add the endorsement within one year.
✅ Test-Day Checklist
- Bring your BRC completion card, your current license, and payment for the $7 endorsement fee.
- Arrive early and well-rested — fatigue costs easy points on any evaluation.
- Read every question and all four options carefully before answering.
- Eliminate the obviously wrong options, then choose between what is left.
- Answer every question; never leave a blank.
📍 Florida Gotchas
The BRC is mandatory. There is no test-only route in Florida — every new rider must complete the Basic RiderCourse before getting an endorsement.
One-year window. Add the endorsement within one year of completing the BRC, or the completion card and waiver become invalid.
Eye protection has no exemption. Riders 21+ may skip the helmet with insurance, but approved eye protection is required for every rider, every age.
Two different tests. The 50-question Class E test is a driving test, not a motorcycle test, and is only needed for a Motorcycle Only license.
Source: Test details are confirmed on the official agency page. Florida has TWO paths: (1) add a motorcycle endorsement to an existing Class E license — the BRC replaces any written test; (2) a Motorcycle Only license — the applicant must also pass the standard Class E knowledge test, 50 questions, 40 correct (80%) to pass. Either way the BRC is mandatory.
