How to walk into the MVD office prepared and pass the motorcycle knowledge test on your first attempt.
Days 1 to 2: read the study guide and the motorcycle section of the New Mexico Driver Manual. Days 3 to 5: take a practice test each day and review every missed question. Days 6 to 7: take full practice tests until you pass comfortably and consistently.
Skim the cheat sheet, take two or three full practice tests, and spend your remaining time on your weakest topics. Remember you need 18 of 25 correct (70%) to pass.
New Mexico's passing score is 70% (18 of 25), the lowest of any state. Helmets are required only for riders under 18. The MSF Basic RiderCourse waives the road test only - the written test is still required. Endorsements are by engine size: W (100cc+), Y (50 to 99cc), Z (under 50cc).
Source: Some test details are confirmed by the state agency; the rest reflect the consensus of major rider-education sources. The official page states Class D and M tests must score 70%+ — the only state below 75%. The question count is an estimate (70% of 25 ≈ 18).
