School bus rules are heavily tested. In Florida, all drivers in BOTH directions must stop for a stopped school bus on a two-way street or highway. The only exception: the highway is divided by a raised barrier or an unpaved median at least 5 feet wide — and even then only opposite-direction traffic is exempt. Painted lines and pavement markings are NOT considered barriers (Ch. 10, School Buses).

Florida's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program has three phases. At age 15, teens can apply for a Learner's License after passing the Vision and Class E Knowledge exams and completing the TLSAE course; a parent or legal guardian must sign the consent form. A Learner must be accompanied by a licensed driver age 21+ in the front passenger seat, may drive only during daylight hours for the first 3 months and then only until 10 PM, must hold the license at least 12 months (or until age 18) with no moving-violation convictions, and must log 50 hours of supervised driving — 10 at night. At age 16, the Class E license is available with a curfew of no driving 11 PM – 6 AM unless going to/from work or accompanied by a licensed 21+ driver. At age 17, the curfew shrinks to no driving 1 AM – 5 AM under the same exceptions. All GDL curfews end at age 18. Any driver under 18 who accumulates 6+ points within 12 months is automatically restricted to "Business Purposes ONLY" driving for one year.
