The knowledge test has a significant failure rate. Here's exactly what to study and how to walk in prepared.
The Nebraska DMV knowledge test is 25 questions. You must answer at least 20 correctly (80%) to pass โ meaning you can miss up to 5. There is no official time limit.
You have 3 attempts per $28 fee within a 6-month period. If you fail 3 times, you pay again. If you fail, you must wait until the next working day before retesting โ use that time to study the topics you missed.
Tests are taken at any Nebraska exam station. As of the current manual, you must schedule an appointment online at dmv.nebraska.gov or by phone at 402-471-3861.
Know: 0.08% (21+), 0.02% under 21 (Zero Tolerance), 0.04% CDL. 1st DUI triggers 180-day ALR. Subsequent DUI = 1-year ALR. Refusal = 1-year ALR. SR22 required 3 years. BAC tested via blood/breath/urine โ implied consent law (p.24).
Revocation at 12 pts/2 years = 6-month automatic revocation (p.18). DUI = 6 pts. Willful reckless = 6 pts. Leaving scene = 6 pts. Reckless = 5 pts. Careless = 4 pts. Failure to yield (pedestrian injury) = 4 pts. Texting = 3 pts. School bus crossing = 3 pts. 1 pt = most other violations. Out-of-state convictions count same.

Nebraska law requires motorists to leave at least 3 feet of clearance when overtaking a bicycle proceeding in the same direction. If 3 feet is not safely available, reduce speed and wait until it is safe to pass (NRS 60-6,314, p.68โ69).
Always maintain a minimum following distance of 3 seconds from the vehicle ahead. Increase to more in slippery roads, bad weather, when towing, or when following motorcyclists.
Signal at least 100 feet before making a turn or changing lanes. At higher speeds (highway), signaling 4โ5 seconds before the turn is better. Turn off signal after completing the maneuver.
You MUST stop for a school bus displaying red flashing lights โ from any direction โ unless you are approaching from the opposite direction on a highway divided by a median. Proceed slowly after lights stop and arm retracts (p.70).
Dim high beams when following within 200 feet of another vehicle, and when meeting oncoming vehicles. Use low beams in fog, rain, or snow โ high beams reflect off water and reduce visibility (p.61).
When parallel parking, the finished position must be within 12 inches of the curb or edge of road (p.56). Know all 4 hill-parking scenarios: uphill with curb = turn wheels away from curb; all other situations = turn wheels toward the curb/edge (p.57).
Children up to age 8 must ride in a federally-approved child safety seat in a rear seat if available (Primary Law). Children ages 8โ18 must wear a seat belt. Children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat. All drivers and front-seat passengers must be buckled (p.25-26).
