Oklahoma Permit Test — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about the Oklahoma SOK written knowledge test, based on the official Oklahoma Driver Manual (2025).

The Oklahoma SOK written knowledge test covers material from the Oklahoma Driver Manual. You need to score at least 80% to pass. There is no official time limit. If you fail, you must wait at least 1 day before retesting. Study the Oklahoma Driver Manual at oklahoma.gov/service to prepare (Chapter 1).
In Oklahoma, a BAC of 0.08% or higher is considered DUI for drivers 21 and older. Drivers under 21 face Zero Tolerance — you can be arrested for alcohol impairment at a BAC of any measurable amount (under 21) (Oklahoma Driver Manual). All states have Zero Tolerance laws for drivers under 21. Even under 0.08%, you can still be convicted if driving is impaired.
A first DUI conviction in Oklahoma (Chapter 12): fine of up to $1,000 plus court costs; minimum imprisonment not less than 10 days (up to 1 year), license suspended 30 days on court conviction. Implied Consent adds 180-day revocation if BAC test was failed at arrest (Chapter 12). A BAC of 0.08%+ may trigger a 30-day license suspension. For second and subsequent convictions, penalties are much worse (Oklahoma Driver Manual).
Under Oklahoma's implied consent law (Chapter 12), you give consent to a chemical test (breath, blood, or urine) whenever you drive on a public highway. Refusing a BAC test results in: automatic revocation of 180 days to 2 years, depending on prior driving record — even if not convicted of DUI (Chapter 12). These penalties are separate from any DUI conviction penalties.
Oklahoma uses a mandatory point system (Chapter 13): accumulation of 10 or more points within 5 years results in license suspension. Reckless driving = 4 pts; speed 25+ over = 3 pts; careless driving, speeding, following too close = 2 pts each; all other violations = 1 pt. Two points deducted each clean year; back to zero after 3 consecutive clean years. License may also be revoked for DUI conviction, vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, or refusing a chemical test (Chapter 12–13).

With an Oklahoma Intermediate License, you may drive freely from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.. You may also drive at any hour to/from school, religious activities, and employment. Full Class D at age 18 (Chapter 1–2).

If you fail, you must wait at least 1 day before retesting (Chapter 1). Replacement license: $25. Find locations at oklahoma.gov/service/locations or call 405-522-7000.
Oklahoma child passenger restraint law (Chapter 3): children under 8 must be properly secured in a child passenger restraint system. Rear-facing required until age 2 or system weight/height limit. Ages 4–7 (not taller than 4'9"): may use a child restraint system or a seat belt. Age 8+: seat belt required. All children under 12 should sit in the rear seat (air bag safety, Chapter 3). Never place a rear-facing seat in front of an active passenger air bag.
Anyone driving in Oklahoma must obtain a Oklahoma driver's license upon establishing Oklahoma residency (Oklahoma Driver Manual). New residents must pass a vision test and surrender their out-of-state license. Military members on active duty, out-of-state students, and temporary business trainees may drive on their valid home-state license. Foreign visitors with valid immigration documents may drive for up to 1 year.
